World of Happiness at Senior Wellness & Stroke Awareness Day at Union, NJ

Ballroom Dance of NJ and World of Happiness, a new and inspiring nonprofit organization was delighted to be a part of “Senior Wellness and Stroke Awareness Day” at the Union Township Senior Center in June. Partnering with Overlook Hospital and Ballroom Dance of New Jersey, our goal was to get seniors up and moving to rhythmic music in order to maintain and increase their vitality and quality of life.

Seniors of all ages came hesitantly onto the floor at first, but after a few minutes of Ballroom and Latin dance instruction they were groovin’ and movin' with smiles on their faces. They tried it all: salsa, tango, meringue, swing, rumba, and more. These motivated seniors realized they could get on their feet, move to the beat and have a good time dancing while improving their health. That was our goal and what fun we all had!

We were delighted to have Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. present at this well attended event and observe World of Happiness doing its part via ballroom dancing to increase the health and happiness of others. Also present were Raul Cadavid  (Manager of Community Health Care) and Vince Ursino (Advisory Board Member/Chairman of Overlook Foundation) who lent their support  to this important event. As always, our thanks to Alexandra Green, Community Health Coordinator at Atlantic Health System.
